  • iWomen - Inspiring Women App

    Inspiration for Myanmar Rural Women

iWomen – Inspiring Women is a joint initiative of UNDP Myanmar and May Doe Kabar National Network of Rural Women.  iWomen app seeks to inspire women, foster self-belief in women and channel peer support for rural women to become leaders in their communities. Inspiration plus Action.

What is unique to all people is their inner world and their levels of motivation. What is universal to all people is we have to manage our own inner world and our levels of motivation.

What is unique about the iWomen App is it delivers a constant stream of inspiration and encouragement from high achieving women directly to the individual rural women of Myanmar to stimulate motivation, to expand personal bandwidth and to open up imagination to new horizons.

What is unique about the iWomen app is sourcing and tailoring the very best of ‘’building self-confidence’’ and ’building self-belief’’ tools from the fields of business and psychology and delivering these tools in the form of games and exercises to the rural women of Myanmar.

What is unique about the iWomen app is providing a safe platform where women can support one another to become respected leaders in their communities by sharing skills, experiences and advice.

In a recent article published by Harvard Business Review Why Inspiration Matters, Professor Scott Barry Kaufman, Scientific Director of the Imagination Institute, University of Pennsylvania, presents a wealth of scientific evidence which demonstrate that inspiration bolsters psychological resources such as perceived competence, self-esteem and optimism. Inspiration was also found to correlate positively with intrinsic motivation work mastery and creativity. Professor Kaufman defined inspiration as ‘a surprising interaction between our current knowledge and the information we receive from the world’. ‘To become personally inspired, the best we can do is set up the optimal circumstances for inspiration.’ This is exactly what the iWomen app is set to achieve: an optimal circumstance whereby the current knowledge of rural Myanmar women can interact with external information and this can lead to bolstering psychological resources which are key for all rural women and especially for rural women community leaders: self-esteem, intrinsic motivation, work-mastery, creativity. Self-Belief is the key to unlock potential in a single woman, in a village network of women, in a national network of women. iWomen app works on the principle that self-belief needs to be a core constituent of Development.

  • Eleonora Gatti is the inspiration behind the Innovation award winning iWomen Inspiring Women App. Eleonora is the iWomen App Coordinator for United Nations Development Programme Myanmar.

iWomen App aims to solve the problem whereby rural women in developing countries are not accessing positive behavioural change content that fosters their social standing and economic empowerment.

iWomen methodology consists of a daily, weekly and monthly rhythm of content as well as commercial style attention-grabbing functions: Human Interest Stories, Hard Facts for Daily Life, Discussion Space and Competitions with Prizes. iWomen App is an app which captures rural women attention by sharing human interest personal stories written by women across the world with the aim of creating ‘’teachable moments’’ in the preoccupied and busy minds of poor rural women (Be Inspired Function); an app which gives rural women hard knowledge on topics such as entrepreneurship, market, laws, rights, technology (Be Knowledgeable Function); an app which runs competitions with prizes to solidify the hard knowledge in the rural women minds and to be used as a monitoring tool to gauge users’ comprehension (Ready to Play Function); an app which provides a sharing platform where women can discuss in private issues of concern and receive remote mentorship (Talk Together).
